Our People's Independence Day event is happening on Saturday, July 4th, from 10 am to noon at my Quaker meetinghouse, I'll be the emcee and I'm really excited about our program. We have awesome speakers who will read passages from Frederick Douglas ("What to a slave is July 4?"), Susan B. Anthony, Ida Wells, Dr. King, James Baldwin, etc. Quakers did not celebrate violent revolutionaries, but we do celebrate nonviolent ones!
