Humanitarian Aid to Gaza Is Our Moral Responsibility

The Gaza crisis is now an epic tragedy   A growing number of monthly meetings in Pacific Yearly Meeting have now approved minutes of concern. They include Claremont, Orange Grove, Sacramento, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica and Strawberry Creek.

Their minutes urge ceasefire in Israel/Palestine, release of Israeli and Palestinian  prisoners, expedited humanitarian aid, and a diplomatic solution to this long-standing conflict.

But much more needs doing. Over  35,000 people have been killed. Most hospitals, schools, places of worship and homes o lie in ruins. Famine is imminent. Gaza’s population has been repeatedly displaced. Indeed Israel’s acts amount to genocide, the International Court of Justice suggests.

Orange Grove and Santa Monica Meetings have now sent money directly to AFSC for humanitarian aid. Orange Grove has donated $10,000 and Santa Monica over $1,000, with over $2 000  donated by individual Friends in both meetings.

Can you please help? We have an ethical responsibility to relieve this immense suffering. We urge other Meetings and individual Friends to follow these examples. Do consider donating soon for Gaza relief through the AFSC, UNWRA or other aid organization.

To discuss this moral imperative and further action, I plan to organize an affinity group and also a vigil at Pacific Yearly Meeting. Join us!
